What to Bring to Camp

Here's what you should/shouldn't bring to camp...

Just a reminder that while you or your camper are at Camp Shagabec, they will be enjoying a cell phone-free experience. We believe in the power of positive human connection and we have learned over the years that the best way to achieve this, is through face-to-face interactions, without any technology.

Another topic that has come up from time to time is bringing extra food or snacks to camp. Please do NOT bring food to camp. The cooks will be preparing lots of delicious food for everyone and there will also be snacks provided throughout the day. On top of that, everyone will be getting to pick an extra treat (or treats) from the Tuck Shop once a day. The reason we do not want food in the cabins is due to allergy concerns, possible messes, and we do not want to attract any insects or animals into the cabins or for anyone to get sick.

Beyond those two things, the greatest thing to avoid bringing would be anything considered dangerous or a weapons; specifically, knives. Even if you have an interest in whittling or if you have a multi-tool that has various purposes, obviously our first priority is everyone's safety, and we would ask that you do not bring any type of weapon with you to camp.

We hope we have your support and if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to one our paid staff or board members.

NOW... what to bring! First of all, a sense of wonder and kindness. A week at camp is a wonderful thing, and the only thing you truly need is a readiness to be open to new and exciting experiences. Beyond that, make sure you check the attached list of items to bring. Word to the wise, make sure you have clothes for various weather types. It's amazing how often the weather changes in Cypress Hills. If you can have your name on items, it certainly helps us get lost items back to their owners.
